Mazovia Cup - Poland

Sunday, 25 June 2006

Another warm-up event for some members of the Australian team prior to the World Champs, the Mazovia Cup is taking place this weekend in Nieporet, 20km north of Warsaw. Paul Darvodelsky and David Simpfendorfer are both riding in this event. For David this will be his first experience orienteering in Europe and will be a useful opportunity to settle into some very different terrain to that found in Australia.

Results and splits from day 1 (middle distance) can be found here. Paul finished 8th and David was just behind in 9th. Both guys about 18-19 minutes behind the winner. In an SMS message Paul said that he suffered a puncture and took considerably longer than usual to fit a tube. An empty or faulty CO2 canister or pump was to blame. Looking at the splits this mishap appears to have cost PD about thirteen minutes. Up to this point he looks like he was riding at the same pace as the winner.

Although there have been no reports from David the splits indicate that he is not far off the pace. A six minute mistake to control 5 obviously costing him a few places.

For Kiwi readers of this site (I know there are a few) Darryl Taylor is also riding at this event and appears to be riding very well. He finished 4th today.

Expect further reports from PD (after he buys a new pump) and David after Day 2 (classic distance).
