WOC Team Training Camp
Tuesday, 30 May 2006
This weekend is the last week before many of the team head off to Europe to start their WOC campaigns. Alex and AJ are first off in early June. Paul D heads of next on 12 June and then Steven, Carolyn and David are heading off toward the end of June.
The training camp will use the most detailed parts of the best available maps. These will be enlarged to the 1:15,000 and 1:10,000 scales which will be used for the World Champs. Training at the right scale is a critical part of preparation for WOC.
The type of training will be a series of short sprint type races from 20 minutes up to about 40 minutes. So all shorter than WOC length. This is done very specifically so riders can practice orienteering at higher speed in areas with a high level of detail. With most orienteers our limitation is not how long we can go, but how fast we can go! Especially in detail.
